'Jab We Met' remake to be directed by kannan in tamil

Kannan, a one-time associate of Maniratnam, directed the film 'Jeyam Kondan' He has now been roped in to direct the Tamil remake of the successful Hindi film 'Jab We Met' that starred Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor. Produced by Moserbaer, the remake will have Bharath and Tamanna in lead roles.

When asked whether the puissance of a director may go haywire especially when venturing into remake movies, Kannan said, "It is not that simple to remake movies effortlessly. Some have turned out to be flops and some others super hits. This unpredictability stands as a testimony that remakes also require meticulous treatment and scrupulous effort in order to be successful."
'Jab We Met' was set in the Punjabi milieu whereas the Tamil remake will be revolving around a rural atmosphere. Some hill stations rich in green terrains like Ooty are also being considered since the crux of the movie is based on romance.

Anjali in no hurry

When one takes a look back at movies sans commercial elements in recent years 'Katrathu Thamizh' would definitely be on the list. The movie is about a psychologically drained out protagonist and a rustic lass who finally perish after struggling to live in a cold cruel world.
Anjali, who appeared as the innocent rustic girl showed sparks of elegance despite playing a character that was devoid of flamboyant costumes and make up. Her performance was quite impressive alongside Jeeva.

The girl does not seem to be bothered about the number of movies she features in but is particular to be part of films that have performance-oriented roles. She expresses her disinterest in roles that just demand her to feature as the love interest of the hero and to pair with him in duets and other common scope less characters.

Anjali is currently working in two movies and she says that she would wait for characters that she likes. She seems to be in no hurry. Anjali definitely belongs to the school of thought that gives more importance to quality than quantity.

Fragrance in the form of 'Poo' from Nov 21

After the successful run of 'Raman Thediya Seethai', another film from the stables of Moser Baer in the form of 'Poo' is gearing up for release on the 21st of November. Talented director Sasi who churned out 'Roja Kootam' and 'Sollamalae' has directed 'Poo'. The film stars Srikanth and Malayalee actress Parvathy in lead roles.

According to reports, the trailer of the film has come out in a wonderful manner. Debutant music director S. S. Kumaran's tunes are also being appreciated a lot.

'A rustic backdrop with haunting music features in the trailer and it has the potential to woo audiences to theaters big time' said a source close to the makers of the film.

Reports also suggest that the distribution arm of Sathyam Cinemas are so impressed that they have acquired the rights for distributing the film in Chennai.

Keka - An ultimatum for Teja’s creativity

Teja started his journey in filmdom with 'Chitram' made on the line of immature teenage love. Later, he made the love stories 'Nuvvu Nenu' & 'Jayam', with which he raised the craze for his film amongst youth and carved a niche for himself as a director in the industry.

'Lakshmi Kalyanam', 'Oka Vichitram' the films which followed 'Jayam' failed badly. With this blow he took a gap of 2years. He returned back now with his latest 'Keka' introducing Raja (son or lyricist Sirivennella Seetharama Sasty) and Ishana as lead pair. Produced on Chitram Movies banner, the film is released on 23rd backed by lot of expectations cause of extensive publicity. Here we present a review on the film.

Story
The protagonist Arjun (Raja) goes for fishing with his friends. He meets Sujatha (Ishana) there, and their introduction blossoms into love. Sujatha’s parents are against their love and arrange her marriage with Kiran (Anup) who happens to be a close friend of Arjun. Learning about the marriage fixing, Arjun leaves for Kolkata just to keep away from Sujatha. There in Kolkatha a group tries to attack and kill Arjun. What is the reason for it? Did Kiran marry Sujatha? Was it a happy ending for their love story? To find answers to all these questions one has to go and watch Keka.

Performance of Artists
Raja son of popular lyrics writer Sirivennela Seetharama Sastry, is debuted as a hero with Keka. His acting is a mere ok and not filled with flaws. But his body language, costumes and hairstyle does not impress the viewers, in fact it’s very bad.
Ishana from Ajmer is introduced as a heroine. She is the main attraction to the film. Her portrayal of Sujatha is not so plausible. If she improves her acting skill, there are chances for her to get better offers. Dharmavarapu Subrahmaniyam & Rallapalli who appear regularly in Teja's films, are seen in a cameo and tried their best to deliver whatever they got within the allotted roles.
Anup as Kiran, Basha, Talaivaasal Vijay, Duvvasi Mohan, Moil Swamy, Vaiyyapuri, Bengali actor Nimmu Bhoumik have presented an average performance.

Technical Values
The photography of PC Sriram is the special attraction to the film. His work in featuring the songs is excellent.
For the first time Chakri has composed music for Teja's film. Although they are not very catchy, the songs are not cacophonous either.

Director’s Portrayal
For those who watched 'Chitram' and 'Nuvvu Nenu' the earlier films of Teja, will wonder if 'Keka' is made by the same director himself. He took 2 years gap to reconsider the points which failed the films he made before Keka. This time also he missed to focus on the script part of the film and concentrated only on music and photography in Keka.
While watching ‘Keka’ it makes the audience wonder whether the director has the stamina in him to deliver quality movies as he did earlier. He was incognito for almost two years and now his comeback doesn’t reflect much of an improvement in his directional skills.

Cons
Every time film goers expect an innovative story line but Keka has the same old story with a not so new screenplay. A bad flaw is that not even a single scene could reap applause from the audience. Comical attempts by the new comers doesn’t evoke laughter but is simply disgusting
The serious dialogues delivered by the heroine sound funny. Kiran's character looks childish and immature. Although the technicalities are good, they are wasted cause of the void in script, the film appears as a soulless body.

Criticism
One was expecting director Teja to comeback refreshingly different after his long penance but alas! The maker didn’t understand the core concept of film making even after this break and did Keka in the same dud formula. The scenes that are projected on screen are senseless and boring one after the other. In short, Teja’s Keka is one more dud that desperately fails to impress. It just reaps an ultimatum for the creative director.

Bottomline -It’s just not worth your time

Ghajini – First Look on sensational promos

Christopher Nolan's Mementoes fetched the best credits for its fascinating theme of 'Short Term Memory Loss'. Of course, remaking it in Tamil as 'Ghajini' with Surya in lead role, the actor fleeted to the peaks of glory in his career. Here comes the turn of Bollywood Superstar Aamir Khan, an embodiment of extraordinary perfection. "Best than the Best" is the mantra that he follows and his Hindi remake of Ghajini seems to have been spelled on those lines. 60-Secs teaser showcases Aamir Khan in different make-over as an innocent charming lad and a ferocious youngster smashing down baddies.
So, what makes the film getting titled 'Ghajini'? Ask Murugadoss and he says, "GHAJINI is derived from the name of King Mohammad Ghajini. His unique attributes is all about committing a great crime in front of others and making them believe he never did it. So does our protagonist carrying the same quotients".
Directed by A.R. Murugadoss, Asin stars opposite Aamir in female lead along with Jiah Khan and A.R. Rahman scores music.

Shriya denies rumours of love with Sreesanth

Shriya has denied rumors that she is in love with cricketer Sreesanth.Few days ago, they took part in a fashion show in Mumbai. It was alleged that the two had dinner and left in a car together.

However, when contacted, Shriya denied the reports terming them as false. 'I am acting in a movie directed by Deepa Mehta. I am preparing myself for it. There is no place for romance in my life now. I am committed to acting', she said.'I have not met Sreesanth before and never spoken to him', she said.

Release date postponed of movie 'EMI'

The forthcoming film 'EMI' has been postponed to release on November 7 which was earlier fixed to be released on October 29 .

As only around 40% of the sound mixing of 'EMI' has been completed in Anand Studios, the makers of the movie, Popcorn Entertainment and Balaji Motion Pictures felt that it will be difficult to wrap up the remaining work and also complete the censorship procedures before November 7.

On November 7, the movie will be hitting the big screens along with 'Dasvindanya', 'Horn Ok Pleasssss', 'Ek Vivaah Aisa Bhi' and the latest James Bond movie 'Quantum Of Solace'.

A fresh feel Subramaniapuram

James Vasanthan,music director of Subramaniapuram was a popular television anchor, and also a talented musician. Debutant director Sasikumar has unearthed his musical talent in ‘Subramanipuram’.

The director, who has churned out a retro classic (set in 1980s), has managed to extract five scintillating songs from James which are heart-rending.

By making good use of rhythm and a mix of melody and peppy beats, the album have songs which are sure to top audio charts. The debutant music composer has introduced several new voices, who provides a fresh feel.

‘Subramanipuram’ audio is refreshing and sure to catch the imagination of the listeners. All credit to James Vasanthan for utilizing the opportunity well to come up with catchy numbers.

Kangal Irandaal (Belly Raj, Deepa Miriam)

A catchy classical melody this is. Lyricist Thamarai lends grace to the song with her lyrics. The song set on a classical raaga has western interludes in between. James Vasanthan's delectable use of the vocals and rhythm work out wonders. The good use of flute in between is noteworthy.

Madura Kulunga (Velmurugan, Suchitra, Madurai Banumathi & group)

A rural song. Laced with ethnic beats, the song recreates the ambience of a temple festival. James Vasanthan understands of the rural music and the fusion with western stuff doesn't prevent one from raising his/her eyebrow. An enthusiastic number, the description of the local festival by Yughabarathy is attractive.

Kadhal Siluvaiyil (Shankar Mahadevan)

Shankar Mahadven has proved that he is equally skilled in rendering soft melodies. The songs, penned by Yugabharathy, which expresses the sufferings one undergoes after falling in love, has good use of wind instruments. James Vasanthan has allowed the vocals to dominate the music, which is a rarity these days.

Theme music

James Vasanthan has made the East meet West in the theme music. The pacy musical score has a mix of Indian and Western instruments at the right mix.

Theneeril Snehitham (Benny Dayal)

A song with peppy beats and English rap. The song takes the listeners to the music culture prevailed in west in 1980s. Pacy musical score and the catchy rhythm created with percussion instruments strike the hearts of the listeners. Benny chips in with his best.

All credit to James Vasanthan for coming up with high quality music considering this to be his maiden venture on big screen.

Kuselan - Simply stunning

It sure was a challenging opportunity for 22-year-old G. V. Prakash Kumar to compose music for a Rajinikanth film. The expectations and hype were sky-high and he has lived up to them and has not disappointed the millions of Rajinikanth fans across the globe.

The young wizard has lived up to all expectations and was showered appreciation by Rajinikanth himself and his die-hard fans as well.

A visibly impressed Rajini called Prakash the right mix of Rahman and Ilayaraja. The album has five tracks which are predominantly hip-hop and groovy singing peans of Rajinikanth. Reminding one of Rahman in all his compositions, Prakash stuns everyone with his quality orchestration. His choice of singers (Shankar Mahadevan, Shreya Ghoshal and Daler Mehndi) shows that he hold mastery over his music in spite of his young age.

A soft melody in Chaaral and Sollamma, nice peppy tunes for Cinema Cinema, Perinba Pechukara and Om Zarare sum up the album. But the varied instrumentation and the catchy interludes and rhythm makes all the difference. Prakash proved his skills in 'Veyyil' and ‘Kireedom’ before. He seems to have come more polished and skilled in ‘Kuselan’. Not succumbing to any pressure, Prakash has generated electrifying stuff in ‘Kuselan’ sure to delight all music-lovers.

Cinema Cinema ( Shankar Mahadevan)

It is a song glorifying 75 years of Tamil cinema. It is penned by Valee, who had been part of the evolution of Tamil cinema. A major portion of the number sings peans of Rajinikanth, the actor himself. Prakash's pacy tune coupled with good use of stringed instruments strikes the right chord with listeners. No doubt the song will make Rajini fans ecstatic. Shankar Mahadevan's energy is amazing. His open-throated voice impresses one and all.

Chaaral (Shreya Ghosal)

A soft melody with less instrumentation. The orchestration and Shreya's voice are the major highlights of the album. Shreya Ghosal's diction of difficult Tamil words is good. The fact of music not dominating the lyrics provides solace to the listeners. A lovable number for those who have a heart for soft melodies.

Om Zarare (Daler Mehdni, Sadhana Sargam, Chithra)

This song relishes and regales Rajini fans. The song is for the die-hard Rajnikanth fans sung by energetic Daler Mehandi in the company of Sadhana Sargam and Chitra. A groovy number with decent rhythmic beats, Daler's magnetic voice catches admiration from music-lovers. But what spoils the party is poor Tamil diction by Daler. Sadhana Sargam and Chitra are as usual impressive.

Prakash has proved that he has the mastery over peppy numbers. His shrewd interludes and catchy harmony deserve special mention.

Perinba (Kailash Kher, Prassana)

One more song heaping praises on Rajinikanth. Kailash's voice is tailor-made in the company of Prasanna. A catchy tune with peppy beats, the song sticks to our heart while listening the very first time itself.

Reminds one of Prakash's earlier compositions Veyyilodu Vilayadi in ‘Veyyil’. But takes the turn as it progresses to sound similar to the mass songs of Rajinikanth. The song which heaps laurels on Rajinikanth would be cherished by his fans.

Sollama (Hariharan, Sujatha)

A melodious song that sounds pleasant and sweet. The simple lyrics and soft instrumentation does the trick. The piano interlude by Prakash shows his maturity as a music composer. Hariharan's voice cool as a cucumber coupled with Sujatha's sweet rendition takes the song on a higher plane. This is a song that will find its place in audio charts for a long time.

All said and done, Prakash has tried his best to satisfy Rajini's fans and in the process has come out with something very different.

An awesome album sure to rock everyone.

Sakkarakatti - Youthful exuberance at its best

Rahman is in a league of his own. The master composer that he is, is not tired of trying new sounds and experimenting various variations with his musical score.

Having achieved terrific feats in his filmi career, Rahman comes up with musical scores that challenge his previous bests. This is the stuff that genius is made of. A music composer, who can come up with melody, hip-hop or peppy numbers at his will, Rahman has brought out the youthful fragrance in him with 'Sakkarakatti'.

Working with a debutant Kalaprabhu, Rahman has brought out new sounds that have the potential to mesmerize listeners. With right vocals and excellent instrumentation, 'Sakkarakatti' is as sweet as sugar candy.

Songs like Taxi, Chinamma are sure to become anthems among the young at heart. The likes of Blaze, Benny, Madhusree and Chinmayee truly scintillate.

The songs have been designed in such a way that hearing them once is good enough for the tunes to stick on to hearts. The melody maker in Rahman is at his best in 'Sakarakatti' and the music album is sure to go places.

1. I Miss You Da (Chinmayee)

A brilliant number that is erotic and enigmatic. Rahman is at his best here, with flawless harmony. The musical interludes coupled with the erotic voice by the female lead takes the listeners by surprise. It is like feeling the soft warmth of the early morning sun while on a leisurely walk.

2. Chinnamma Jhalak UN Nenjil (Benny Dayal)

Song has been inspired by Rahman's Chinamma song in 'Meenaxi'. Beginning with a brilliant flute, it goes on to gather momentum. Benny Dayal's catchy voice adds to the pep. The lyrics are a perfect mach to the music with scintillating background percussion. A refreshing and reverberating number.

3. Elay Ulagam (Krish and Harish)

Rahman has proved once again why he is called the 'Mozart of Madras'. Seemingly a takeoff of Rahman's Robaroo in 'Rang De Basanti', the song is mighty pleasant with the violin and the guitars soothing our hearts. In this foot-tapping number, the music stands aloof from the lyrics. Sure to stick to the heart of listeners, the song would emerge the style statement among youth. Krish is oozing with energy and so is Harish.

4. Naan Eppodhu

A soft song that portrays Rahman's mastery in coming up with such articulate numbers. It is a brilliant composition with the use of the Veena and Guitar complimenting each other. The rhythm pattern and the catchy interludes are worthy of applause. The song is worth listening to especially with the different sounds.

5. Taxi Taxi (Benny, Blaze and Vion)

A perfect song for those who love to shake their legs. It is full of energy and vigor. Blaaze starts off in style, while Benny and Vion give him the right company. This is a typical youth chartbuster that should be heard all over Chennai in a few days. The peppy beats and open-throated voice of the singers give a unique feel.

6. Marudhaani (Madhushree and Rahman)

A great melody from the master. Reminding one of Sahana Saaral, the song has sweetness written all over it. A soothing number with less instrumentation but more vocals. Hats off to the composer for trying this new variation. Rahman, the singer, is more than impressive.

Hats off to Rahman who has retained freshness in the album.

'Sakkarakatti' is truly as sweet as sugar candy.

Harris Jeyaraj in accord with Gautham

Music director Harris Jeyaraj shares a good rapport with director Gautham Vasudev Menon. The famous two is a team since 'Minnale' till the latest upcoming flick 'Varanam Aayiram'.

Says Harris Jeyaraj,"We share a good rapport and it is a delight for any musician to work with Gautham."

On 'Varanam Aayiram', he says, "The film traces the life of a person from childhood to old age. And there was a need to render music of a different genre; it had to flow along with the story. Each song in the album is different, making itself parallel to different stages of life that the protagonist comes across."

Harris is keen on quality which matters the most to him than quantity.

"I have worked with some of the best technicians and directors from the film industry. Right from adjusting the microphones for the singers, I involve myself in everything. It is a time-consuming process but I enjoy doing it,' concludes the songster.

Priyamani pitted against Madhavan

National award winning actress Priyamani will play Madhavan's ladylove in Thangar Bachchan's forthcoming film.

To be produced by Ayngaran Internationals, the movie brings together Sathyaraj, Madhavan and Priyamani for the first time. The actress, who won the National award for best actress for her performance in 'Paruthi veeran', is currently acting in a movie made by veteran director Mani Ratnam. Up on completion, she would act in Thangar's film.

Interestingly, Madhavan plays Sathyaraj's son in the film. Sathyaraj and Thangar had earlier teamed up with Sathyaraj in 'Onbathu Roopai Nottu'

‘Dil’ Raju distributes 'Surya S/o Krishna' in Naizam

Surya does a dual role opposite Sameera Reddy and Ramya as heroines, in the direction of Goutham Menon, Aascar RaviChandran is producing 'Suray S/o Krishna' on Aascar Films Pvt Ltd banner. The film is being presented to Telugu viewers by Shobha Rani and Ramana on SVR Media Pvt Ltd banner.

The shooting of this film is completed and is going to be released on the eve of Deepavali. The head of Sri Venkateshwara Creations, 'Dil' Raju will be distributing the film in Naizam area. We are aware that 'Happy Days', 'Homam' and 'Salute' distributed by Dil Raju were a great success earlier. So, the expectations on 'Surya S/o Krishna' has increased to a great extent, as Dil Raju has taken up the distribution rights.

Hollywood praises 'Achchamundu Achchamundu'

'Achchamundu Achchamundu', a forthcoming film directed by Arun Vaidhyanathan starring Prasanna and Sneha in the lead roles. The film is the first of its kind in Indian Cinema to be shot in RED ONE camera, This futuristic camera, capable of making high resolution digital cinematography with jaw-dropping imagery, has only been used in a handful of Hollywood productions like 'Guerrila', 'The Argentine'among others.

The Digital Intermediate process of 'Achchamundu Achchamunudu' is currently in the progress at Plaster City, Los Angeles where Michael Payser and John Labrie along with some other techinicians of Hollywood showed a lot of enthusiasm in watching the India's first Red one feature and with the director Arun Vaidhyanathan arranging to fullfill it, they watched some important snippets of the film and bestowed praise and appreciation on the crew for its technical brilliance.

Michael Peyser has produced Hollywood films like Speed-2, U2, 3D and he is currently working on Laundry Warrior. Jon Labrie had taken the role of Digital systems architect in academy award winning 'Lord of the rings'.

The special effects part of 'Achchamundu Achchamundu' is being done in U.S.A. and the film is nearing its completion.

'Karzzz' is representing Bollywood in Abu Dhabi

The forthcoming flick of T-Series 'Karzzzz' is the only Hindi film to be selected to be screened at the Middle East International film Festival.

The movie will get a grand premiere at the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi on October 17 at 9.30 pm.



The show will be followed by a gala dinner.

The top man of T- Series Bhushan Kumar said that this honour is just the beginning for 'Karzzzz' and still the movie has a long journey to make.

Other than Bhushan Kumar, Tulsi Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Director of T-Series Ajay Kapoor, Gulshan Grover, Vinod Bhanushali, Director Satish Kaushik, Shweta Kumar, Dino Morea among other celebrities will be present for the show in the Middle East.

"The ad had Aftab as Michael Jackson while I was Madonna," Anjori reveals laughing.

'Kavi' completes First Schedule

‘Kavi’ has completed the first schedule of its shooting, directed by ‘Sevenstar’ Sriram, the main leads enacted by Sikinder, Prashita. Producer K Ram mohan rao is making this movie on RMK productions banner.

In the recent past, the movie has completed its first phase of shooting and is about to begin its next shortly. On this occasion, the unit arranged a press meet on 17th October at Visweshwaraiah guest house.

Producer K Ram Mohan said, “The movie has completed its first schedule of shooting which has been canned in Rajahmundry and its surrounding locales. The second schedule will start shortly. There are a total of 7 songs in the movie. The movie has been slated to be released by the end of October or in the first week of November.”

Balakrishna’s in a song

Producer Shivalenk Krishna Prasad has earlier produced ‘Aditya 369’, ‘Vamsanikokkadu’ on Sridevi Movies banner. Now, he is in his current venture with Balakrishna starring the lead in his production who is pitted for the first time against actress Priyamani. The movie was launched on 10th October on Vaishnavi Cinemas banner at State Arts Gallery, Hyderabad.

This Balakrishna’s movie is being directed by Mahadev, an aide of Rajamouli, the director of hat-tricks as his maiden trial. The film planned to be shot in Malaysia and Rajamundry has now been commenced with the canning of a song featuring the leads, at Ramoji film city.

Kola Bhaskar edits this movie and the camera is cranked by Bala Murugan. Manisharma composes the music for this ongoing project.

A..Aa..E..Ee..'s climax in Araku

The movie ‘A..Aa..E..Ee’ is in the last stages of its making, starring Srikanth, Meera Jasmine and Sadaf in the main roles. Srinivas Reddy, the director who earlier made ‘Yamagola Malli Modalaindi’ and attained fame is now directing this film. A..Aa.E...Ee abbreviated from Akkada Aame Inthalo Eeme, is produced by Ashok Yadav on Kalpana Arts banner.

The regular shooting of the film is in progress at various locales of Hyderabad. Recently, at Ramoji Film City a song has been canned on Srikanth and Sadaf.

The news is about 60 percent of the film has been completed, and the unit will shortly move to Araku, a hill-station with scenic beauty near Vizag where the climax of the flick is planned to be canned.

Mumtaj becomes Minister

Introduced by Vijaya T Rajendher in Monisha En Monalisa, the actress had come a long way establishing herself, as a glam doll. People who expected Mumtaj to be the next minister, competing in the elections; better luck next time, because the actress has no plans to make it into politics for now.

Laughs Tusshar Kapoor, "Bebo plays a housewife who is heavily inspired by the saas-bahu serials. She is able to draw a parallel between her husband's infidelity with specific instances of infidelity from some of the TV serials. It's hilarious!"

When we asked Ekta Kapoor herself to comment on Kareena's character being a Balaji soap fan, the former smiled, "That's flattering! Long live the saas-es and bahus!"

Venky and NTR mustered up

Nallamalapu Srinivas (Bujji) the head of Lakshmi Narasimha Productions has made films like 'Lakshmi', 'Chinthakayala Ravi' with hero Venkatesh and 'Adi' with hero NTR. The production house had earlier planned to make a multi-starrer in the combination of Venkatesh and another popular hero, however the project couldn’t be materialized.

Presently the film-maker is planning a new multi-star film with a huge budget, in the combination of Venkatesh & NTR. It is known that two directors and two music directors will contribute to the making of this film.

We all know that in recent release 'Chintakayala Ravi' with hero Venkatesh in the lead, hero NTR appears in a 30 seconds clip for a song together with Venkatesh. After SARKAR RAJ, CONTRACT and PHOONK in 2008, Ram Gopal Varma would be ready with his next film in 2009. He has named it RANN - A NEWS STORY.

I have titled the film I am going to make on the media as RANN - A NEWS STORY.

RANN means battle. And battle is a fight between large organized forces. In the context of a civil society and its deep complexities, large organized forces (read news channels, political parties and industrial czars) are not just involved in a fight with each other, but more importantly and frighteningly, they are battling a war within themselves and this is especially true of news channels.

If dog bites man, it is not news. But if man bites dog, it is news. And if a cat bites a dog, it’s Breaking News. Getting news is not the easiest thing in the world, so the next best thing obviously would be to make anything and everything appear to be news.

The way the news are presented today are much more entertaining than family soaps and thrillers. What’s worse is that we enjoy this kind presentation so much that we have got addicted to them for our daily dose of fun and drama.

AND HIGH DRAMA IS WHAT 'RANN' IS GOING TO BE.

There is the government - a system which runs the country, then there are wealth creators like industrialists etc. and then there are politicians in the ruling party and the opposition.

All the above in a democratic society are supposed to be working for the common people and the one and only means of the common people having any idea as to what those are up to is through the media. Hence the media has been invented as a truth telling machinery serving the purpose of the common people so that they know they are in good hands or in case they are told that they are not, they can hope to exercise the power of their vote to bring about a change.

The Media is a reporting agency. It reports News. NEWS is what is new. New is what you hear for the first time. So to be able to be the first to tell you the various Newspapers and Channels have an intense competition among themselves and this they do on a need to survive, on an ego to be on the top and on a greed to get rich.

To be ahead of competition means more circulation and higher TRPs which in turn generate more and more Ad revenue which will translate into making more and more and more money.

Also the fact that in the process the people who run the media realize their power of influencing the common people inevitably makes them power hungry.

To sum up this film’s intention would be to expose the behind-the-scenes truth of how a truth telling machinery by the very virtue of its positioning has no choice but to corrupt itself to become a money-making and power-brokering enterprise.

Sayali sizzles

Noted Bollywood actress Sayali Bhagat, who had acted in films including ‘The Train’ and ‘Halla Bol’, is shooting for S J Suryah's ‘Newtonin Moonram Vidhi’.

She plays a television anchor in the movie. Directed by Thaimuthu Selvan, the movie has musical score by newcomer Vinay.

Says the director, “Sayali, has come up with a strong performance. She combines glamour and elegant acting in the necessary potion. It was a joy working with her.”

Rajeev Krishna, who played the hero in Aaha, ventures to do a baddie in the movie. We have shot all the five songs in different manner. A youthful entertainer, it is a novel attempt in Kollywood, says the director of Newton’s law. “SJ Suryah as a costume designer has delivered it well and lived up to the character all through the movie. His dedication to excel impressed me. Though, he is a director himself, he never interfered in my work”, he adds on a final note.

Ravi Teja flies to Canada

Surendar Reddy is acquainted as a good director through films like 'Athanokkade', 'Ashok' and 'Athidi'. Pitting RaviTeja against Ileana in the main lead roles, he is presently directing a huge budgeted film, produced by Venkat on RR Movie Makers banner.

The movie was launched on 9th of this month on Dussera. It is planned to shoot a major part of this film in foreign locations. It is learnt that, the regular shooting is going to commence from 25th November, at Canada.

This is the second film in the combination of Ravi Teja and Ileana, since 'Khatharnak'. Rasool Ellore is contributing the cinematography for this flick.

NTR’s ‘MLA’ forays February

'Aadi' casting NTR in the lead, was produced by Nallamalapu Srinivas (Bujji) on Lakshmi Narasimha Productions banner. The producer is planning to make a new film with NTR again. The will be directed by Hari Shankar of 'Shock' fame. The movie Shock was recognized widely and attained a niche for the director.

His initial attempt directing NTR is expected to be a success. NTR always have a close association with Lakshmi Narasimha productions and the makers expect to make MLA as a grand endeavor.

The title 'MLA' with a tagline – Manchi Lakshanalunna Abbai is under consideration. It is learnt from reliable sources that the regular shooting of this film will start from February.

Who's running the race on Deepavali?

With just a few days to reach Deepavali, it is still not clear as to which movies would hit the screens on the festive day and which are the movies that would step aside from the race.

Ajith starrer ‘Aega’n and director Hari's ‘Seval’ are sure to be on the tracks for the festival. Aegan directed by Raju Sundaram, features Ajith and Nayantara in the lead roles. A remake of Shahrukh starrer ‘Main Hoon Na’, it has musical score by Yuvanshankar Raja.

Seval brings together Bharath, Poonam Bajwa and Simran. Directed by Hari, the movie has music by G V Prakash. A racy entertainer, quite typical of Hari, expectations are high on the film.

Guru En Aalu starring Madhavan, Mamta Mohandoss and Abbas is keen to run the race. A remake of Shahrukh's Yess Boss, the movie is directed by Selvah and produced by KRG. Having been censored, it looks certain that ‘Guru En Aalu’ too would be ready to entertain the audience.

All eyes are now on Goutham menon's ‘Varanam Aayiram’. Starring Surya in a dual role, the anticipated extravaganza is being produced by Aascar Ravochandran. Sharing screen space with Surya are Simran, Divya Spandhana and Samira Reddy. Music is by Harris Jeyaraj. Though sources close to the production house expressed confidence that the movie would hit the screens on Deepavali, a section of the industry men expressed apprehensions on its fate.

Last but not least, Samida, a movie made by an all new cast and crew is on a high confidence level and is ready to run the race with biggies.

Katrina and the Crystal Factory

Katrina Kaif was shooting for Subhash Ghai's Yuvvraaj at the world famous Swavroski showroom in Austria recently. Known for its landmark jewelry and showpieces, unit members began teasing Katrina saying that the rare crystal pieces would catch her attention more and the shooting work less.

"What piece of jewelry should I buy for myself? What piece would best adorn my home?" were the questions, the unit members said, that surely troubled Katrina. But surprise, surprise! Katrina was only focused on her work. Her attention was completely on the scene that was being shot.

"Not even once did Katrina's attention get drifted towards the showpieces and the jewelry. She was completely immersed in her work. She was 'crystal' clear about her career. Anybody in her place would have easily given into the temptation of walking around the beautifully decorated store and shopped like a maniac. But not Katrina."

The unit members decided to honor Katrina's dedication towards her work.

"We bought a gift from Swavroski for Katrina and presented it to her after the shooting got over. She was touched by our gesture," a unit member revealed smiling.

The unit member added, "Swarvroski usually do not allow any shooting to take place in their stores. But they made an exception for Subhash Ghai's film. They even kept the store shut that particular day. But thousands had gathered to watch the shooting of the film."

Posing Ravi Teja as the main lead 'Itlu Sravani Subrahmanyam', 'Idiot' and 'Amma Nanna O Tamilammayee' are some of the hits made by the director Puri Jagannath. The director has also directed the likes of blockbuster movies, ‘Pokiri’, ‘Super’ and ‘Desamuduru’.

After a short gap, the maker is back to what he does best; direction. He is busy making his new flick 'Neninthe' with RaviTeja and Shriya as the hero and heroines. DVV Danayya is producing the film on Universal Media Banner.

The shooting will be completed at the earliest with an exception of two of the songs. The remaining two songs will be filmed from 1st of November to 15th at the beautiful locales of New Zealand. The director is gearing up to restate the success with Ravi Teja by his side. Jagannath has also been committed in another pipelined movie, titled ‘Chachipote’.

Vasantham on air

Vasantham, a free-to-air channel gets launched in Singapore on October 19, 2008. The Launch Show, titled "Pudhu Vasantham'' in English, will showcase the history of Indian broadcasting in Singapore and how it has evolved over the years. More than 100 local artistes spanning four decades will be performing during this musical launch show.

Vasantham is also the largest free-to-air broadcaster catering to the Indian community outside India.

The new Vasantham channel, which aspires to be the channel of choice for the growing Indian community in Singapore, will telecast programmes from 3P.M. to 12A.M. on Monday to Saturday and from 1P.M. to 12A.M.on Sunday. Besides serving as the main source of news and current affairs for the community, Vasantham will also be offering many entertainment and infotainment programmes on a daily basis.

The channel would carry the tagline 'Naalthorum Navarasam' that draws upon the ancient Indian concept of slotting the various hues of life into nine different categories -from comedy and romance to courage, wonder and tranquility.

MUMBAI MANTRA takes the plunge with 'SORRY BHAI'

"Mumbai Mantra" is the name of the latest entrant into the world of Bollywood Business.

One of India's top 10 industrial houses, the US $6.7 Billion Mahindra Group is the sponsor behind "Mumbai Mantra".

The first venture of the new entertainment company is the forthcoming feel good film 'SORRY BHAI' directed by Onir.

"Mumbai Mantra" has entered into a joint venture with Puja Films by which the company will be taking up the responsibility to release the movie which will be hitting the cinema halls on November 28.

'SORRY BHAI' dwells upon the topic of forbidden love in a very progressive and contemporary manner.

The cast and crew of the film assembled at SPICE Multiplex to speak to the media.

Speaking about the film, film maker Onir who is famous for his preference of subjects entirely based on the complex faces and nature of the relationships between the humans said,

" The movie is a fun holiday-romance film that has an interesting take on forbidden love. It's the first time I am working with Boman Irani and Shabana Azmi and they are just adorable in the movie. I am delighted that Chitrangadha chose my film to make her comeback.

Shabana Azmi said " It was great to work with Boman again and I enjoyed playing mother to Sanjay and Sharma. Chitrangadha's vibrant performance impressed me completely and her resemblance to Smita Patil is uncanny.

Chitrangadha, who is making a comeback with Sorry Bhai explains, "When I heard the script of Sorry Bhai and understood the depth of my character in the film, I instinctively felt that Sorry Bhai should be my vehicle for a comeback. Onir is an excellent Director to work with and the entire cast has been extremely supportive."

Sharman Joshi thrilled with his performance in the movie says "Sometimes It's right to fall in love with your brother's fiancée, it is this forbidden love that makes my character most interesting. I am delighted to be a part of Sorry Bhai."

Farhan launches world classic movie series

"Enlighten" one of the biggest film societies of India started by Pranav Ashar and Jimmy Mistry is on the path to spread the charm of world cinema in India.



They want to make the movies of the different genres like action, comedy, romantic, drama, exclusive movies aimed at children and much more to be accessible to everyone who is interested in getting more of the movies from around the world that are normally not released in the cinema halls.

Ajith evokes laughter

Kannan direct’s Moser Baer’s production

The Tamil remake will be directed by R.Kannan, who was an one-time associate to Maniratnam and wielded the megaphone for the recent hit movie ‘Jeyam Kondan’ starring Vinay and Bhavana in the lead roles.

Bollywood’s popular music director Pritam has been introduced to kollywood by Moser Baer for the music of the Tamil remake of ‘Jab We Met’. Pritam is the music composer for ‘Jab We Met’ in Hindi and all the songs were hits topping the music charts last year.

Actor Vishnu debuted to the silver screen with the film 'Vishnu'. He is the elder son of senior actor Dr M Mohan Babu. The film 'Dee' brought him recognition and stardom in Tollywood. Big Music became instrumental in bringing together two gems and creative stalwarts of India after a long gap of nearly two decades.

The music company has brought out a musical album titled as "Generations" which is the apt name for the musical project as other than the two veterans; there is the involvement of the cub musician who has composed the song compilation.



Amir Ali, son of Ghulam Ali has composed all the tracks in "Generations" which is a romantic album with light romantic lyrics.

At the launch function Asha Bhosle talked about her past and her beginnings.

'Dil'Raju bids Srikanth Addala again

Recently acquainted news is Srikanth Addala debuted as a director with the recent hit 'Kotha Bangaru Lokam', casting Varun Sandesh and Swetha Prasad as the hero and the heroine. The successful movie was produced by double hat-trick producer 'Dil'Raju on Sri Venkateshwara Creations banner.

TOM DICK AND HARRY sequel is a laugh riot" - Nisha Rawal

We worked on Taal, which gave me immense creative satisfaction as a composer and it was an honor that Yuvvraaj was offered to me. Working on the music of Yuvvraaj has been a creative challenge for me, as Subhashji has always been associated with melodious music and has a vast understanding about the subject. Once you have an artistic mind like Subhashji behind you I guess everything falls rightly in its place. Taal was a mega success and I see Yuvvraaj to be much bigger than that."

Supreme Raju's film casts Tarun

The Supreme Audio Company has successfully released the music of many blockbuster movies in Tollywood.

The head of Supreme Audio, Raju Hirwani has ventured in to production and made his first film 'Asthram' with Vishnu and Anushka in the main role, in the direction of 'Bhasha' fame Suresh Krishna, on Supreme Movies Pvt Ltd banner.

He took a break for some time, as his first film was not successful at the box office. Now he is back to produce a new film based on a love story, with Tarun playing the lead role. A young debutant director will be introduced with this film. The shooting will begin from 15th November.

Ranvir Shorey returns with Akshay Kumar

Trust Ranvir Shorey to experiment with his roles in practically each of his films. Just after being treated with 99 slaps from Mallika Sherawat in UGLY AUR PAGLI, he romanced none other than Katrina Kaif in SINGH IS KINNG. Abhiyum Naanum - Music that touches our heart & soul

After setting the screen on fire in Mozhi, music composer Vidyasgar and director Radha Mohan team up again for 'Abhiyun Naanum'. The movie dwells on the emotional rapport shared by a father and his daughter. Known for his soul-stirring melodies, Vidyasagar has exactly recreated the same in this music album.

The tunes he composed fits apt to the story of the movie. Music flows like a gentle breeze on a sultry day. The good choice of singers ( Madhu Balakrishnan, Kailash Kher, Sadhana Sargam and S P balasubramaniam), excellent orchestration and soft beats kindles the feel to listen the album repeatedly.

The jewel in the crown is perhaps Vairamuthu's lyrics. It brings out the emotions of a dad and his daughter. His utilization of metaphors to describe human relationships is very apt.

Ore Oru Oorile - Kailash Kher

We have grown up hearing the stories narrated by our grand moms of the yesteryear. The song is typically set on a story telling mode. Kailah Kher's in an open throated voice renders the number. The song seems to be setting a momentum for the movie. It introduces all characters in the movie - father, mother and their daughter. Vairamuthu's simple but enchanting lyrics are amazing to listen.

Vaa Vaa En Dhevadhaye - Madhu Balakrishnan

Madhu Balakrishnan seems to be the preferred voice of Vidyasagar. A regular in his albums these days, Madhu Balakrishnan's soft voice (resembling K J Yesudoss) is soul-stirring. Perfectly fits the melody numbers.

Vairamuthu's lyrics lift up the song. Patterned beats and soft music which doesn't dominate the lyrics is the hallmark of the number. Vairamuthu recalls the emotions of a proud father over his daughter's accomplishments well.

Chinnamma Kalyanam - Kailash Kher

Vidyaagar has infused energy in the song with Bhangra style of music. The peppy use of percussion instruments accompanied with a catchy chorus is refreshing to listen to. However Vidyasagar has retained the melody element in this number well.

It is perhaps the pick of the album. Seeming a fusion of Hindusthani and classical Carnatic music, the song strikes at the moment one listens for Vidyasagar has blended the instruments jaltarangam, flute and the shenai very well.

All credit to Sadhan Sargam, The singer has involved herself with the number and given her heart and souls for it. Vidyasagar's harmony of beats blends well with Vairamuthu's superb lyrics.

Azhagiya Azhagiya - SP Balasubramaniam

Again set on a father vantage point and his agony and frustration at his daughter's failure and defeats. Vidyasagar has opted for a racy orchestration to a loud rendition by SP Balasubramaniam.

Vidyasagar captures the emotions of every dad well with this song. It kind of kindles the sorrow feeling in the heart of its listeners and leaves a sad mark behind.

The excellent opera rendered by songster Vidyasagar touches the soul and hats off for his talented orchestration.

"My character has absolutely nothing to do with Mira Nair" - Celina Jaitly

The hot Celina Jaitly is playing Mira Nair in the keenly anticipated Golmaal Returns! Not literally though!

Turns out that her character in the film is christened Mira Nair - she essays the role of a sizzling South-Indian to whom Ajay Devgan's character is attracted on a yacht!

Laughs Celina, "It's only my character name in Golmaal Returns and has absolutely nothing to do with Mira Nair, the filmmaker. On another note, I'd love to work with Mira! She's stunning and eloquent, and a marvelous film-maker!"

Golmaal Returns is out in cinemas worldwide on Wednesday 29th October. It is an Indian Films - Studio 18 release.

Poi Solla Porom - For the funny bone

Dealing about land sharks in a busy city like Chennai, the movie has comical touch all through entertaining the audience.

Vijay has recreated the magic of Jaideep Sahini's original well to suit the Tamil audience. The movie starts with a funny scene and what is commendable is that the fun continues throughout. Talented stars like Nedumudi Venu, Cochin Haneefa, Nasser and Mouli have been ably supported by the young brigade.

Sathyanathan (Nedumudi Venu), a retired government employee in Chennai, decides to buy a piece of land to construct his dream house.His elder son Uppilinathan (Karthik), a computer engineer, plans to go abroad for work. His younger son Viswanathan (Om) is a carefree youth, leading a happy life.

Sathyanathan hopes that his sons would help him build his dream house on the newly purchased plot. Uppili applies for a US visa and decides to go for a name change. Sathyanathan gets a rude shock when he realizes he's been duped by the broker (Cochin Haneefa). The land has been occupied by a fraudulent businessman Baby (Nasser).

When all attempts by Sathyanathan to get back the land end in vain, Uppilinathan steps in. With the help of his friend Amritha (Piya) he enacts a drama featuring father whom everyone calls Daddy (Mouli). Uppili is aided by his visa agent Asif (Bosskey) - a former accomplice of baby. They hatch a clever scheme to beat Baby at his own game. Nedumudi Venu, Nasser and Mouli walk away with all honors. Mouli steals the show posing as a rich NRI businessman. Aravindh Krishna's cinematography, music by M G Sreekumar and Anthony's editing are the hallmarks of the movie.

Pandhayam - Royal challenge for romance

Relying on his son's (Vijay) star power, veteran director S. A. Chandrasekharan has dished out Pandhayam, which speaks lofty about his son.

With Prakashraj at the helm of affairs, the director has made an action-packed entertainer, which has a storyline that is very old and oft-repeated in Tamil Cinema.

Nithin Sathya, after hogging the limelight with movies like 'Chennai 600028' and 'Saththam Podathae', takes the centre stage to play a single hero in the movie.

He has enough opportunities to evoke humor, flex his muscles and emote.

Chandrasekharan has used all his experience to make the predictable story a racy stuff.

Sindhu Thulani is back after a brief interval. She plays a typical Tamil heroine, who is bubbly in romantic song sequences. She looks fresh on the screen and her onscreen chemistry with Nithin Sathya is good.

The movie is about Sathya (Nithin Sathya), a college student and an ardent fan of actor Vijay. Sathya comes across Sindhu (Sindhu Thulani), sister of an influential Minister Masanam (Prakashraj). Impressed by Masanam's sister, Sathya decides to romance her. However his friends warn him off incurring the wrath of Masanam. Sathya wins the confidence of Masanam by enacting a play and becomes his trusted aide.

Once this is done, Sathya hides his identity and challenges Masanam over the phone that he would marry his sister within 16 days. A game begins between Masanam and Sathya begins. Who wins the game eventually forms the climax.

Actor Vijay plays a cameo. He appears as himself shooting for a movie directed by Perarasu. His very brief appearance has him uttering punch dialogues.

After a brief interval, Prakashraj plays a baddie all through. He reminds one of playing a similar role in movies like 'Ghilli' and 'Sivakasi'. But he goes about the job exceptionally well. Radhika Sarathkumar strikes a chord with audience with her subtle performance.

Music composer Vijay Anthony makes his mark with catchy remix of couple of Ceylon Manohar's pop songs that lured youngsters in the early 1980s.

The movie begins at a slow pace only to gather momentum as it progresses. Chandrasekharan has dished out several engrossing fares in the past. Though Pandhayam is no match to his earlier works on screen, it is watchable because of its racy script backed by Prakashraj's brisk performance.

Kareena demonstrates her 'ada' for ROADSIDE ROMEO

Forget the Pooja of TASHAN, Kareena is all set to be seen in an altogether different avtar for Yash Raj Film's next production. Soon she would be heard as Laila and the film which would be giving her this platform is ROADSIDE ROMEO.

ROADSIDE ROMEO - Well, that's the first ever animation outing for YRF where Kareena along with Saif Ali Khan would be giving a voiceover for the dogs. In fact it is going to be a Kareena v/s Kareena outing since ROADSIDE ROMEO would be arriving on 24th October while GOLMAAL RETURNS would be hitting the screens on 29th October.

Though the first look of ROADSIDE ROMEO (featuring Saif Ali Khan's voice) was revealed months back when this Jugal Hansraj film was slated for Summer 2008 release, a delay to Diwali has resulted in the makers arriving with a new promo with Kareena in focus this time around. As Laila, the female dog who comes to give an audition for a heroine's role, Kareena gets the right 'ada' in place to demonstrate the naughty-yet-smart streak.

She doesn't just tease the casting director with her monosyllabic yet confident replies, she also intimidates him with her smartness. Not just that, she also flutters her eyelashes when the right arrives and gives a lot more than just a simple message when the director probes deeper into skills. How exactly? Well, she just replies that she knows 'everything - just about everything'!

Raman Thediya Seethai Movie Review

K.P. Jagannaath's 'Raman Thediya Seethai' lives up to the expectations of a clean family entertainer. A neat screenplay with some slick direction makes this tale come to life. The protagonist is on a quest to find an apt bride but then he is haunted by a rather embarrassing past. The honest man that he is wants to come clean about his past to prospective brides but is not met with much enthusiasm.

Rajesh Yadav's brilliant camera work, Vidhyasagar's refreshing tunes both with the songs and the background score and Vairabalan's art work merge very well to bring out the desired effects. Good team work is evident right through and that has certainly translated itself very well with the end result. Though the film carries the same title of the MGR – Jayalalitha 1972 film, the name probably could not have been better as it synchronizes perfectly with the characters involved.

One aspect that has many-a-time made movies go astray is when similar characters beat-about-the-bush confusing and even irritating the audience without actually being able to create identities. Well, such movies can most definitely learn a thing or two from 'Raman Thediya Seethai' when it comes to showcasing characters. Each character has a distinct tone with it and when interaction with intensity arises, the clear depiction actually helps audiences relate with the tempo that is created. Something very few directors are capable of.

Apart from Cheran who plays the protagonist, there are two other men whose lives have been shown in montage sequences – the characters played by Pasupathy and Nithin Sathya. Both of them have excelled tremendously. Pasupathy has reiterated once again that he is a performer with quality. Playing a visually challenged Radio Jockey, the expressive actor has emoted very well despite the fact that his character did not allow him to use his eyes except in one shot. His body language and general poise is very much in tune with reality.

Many struggling actors might turn green with envy with the character that Nithin Sathya has played. Despite the character itself being very interesting, Nithin Sathya's performance has been quite good as the 'lovable' thief turned auto driver. Something the masses would simply love.

There is no dearth for beautiful girls in the film. Vimala Raman, Ramya Nambeesan, Gajala, Karthiga and Navya Nair fill in with their respective screen time adding freshness with their diverse portrayals.

Venu (Cheran), a successful businessman seems to have everything in life except a wife. The film starts off with him in Nagerkoil where he is in the process of selecting a bride. Ranjitha (Vimala Raman) seems perfectly happy with him until she hears about his past. Venu, a hard working student needed psychiatric help in order to come to terms with life and his stammering during nervous periods still exist as a naked reminder to his troubled times. The denial makes Venu hunt for other girls and goes to Vidhya's (Ramya Nambeesan) house. The girl says 'yes' and marriage preparations get underway. Happiness is in the air until the girl elopes with her boyfriend on the day of marriage. Venu takes the blame upon himself and become a nervous wreck. In comes a visually challenged man Nedumaran (Pasupathy) a Radio Jockey who hosts a positive thinking way-to-success show. After getting to know about Nedumaran's rather unusual love affair with Isaitamil (Gajala) ad ther eventual marriage, Cheran oozes with confidence and goes back to Nagerkoil to 'seek' another prospect. This time arranged by Manivannan (Vidhya's father) who has a troubled conscience that pricks him.

Venu meets a pregnant Vidhya there and learns about her pathetic life of poverty and helps her in all ways possible especially because she is all alone in life. The girl he had gone to 'seek,' Gayathri, played by Karthiga appears smart and looks forward to interacting with him for a month by phone and email before making a decision. This is perfectly acceptable to Venu. But then he learns about Gunasekharan (Nithin Sathya) ardent love for Karthiga and backs out. The story of how Gunasekharan fell in love with Gayathri which made him a responsible man as narrated by himself appeals with tinges of comic relief.

Venu's constant bumping into Ranjitha, the girl who had rejected him first, shapes up with shades of regret. Vidhya's helpless position and Venu's bride hunting (he seems to be an expert at being rejected by now) diversifies with him 'seeking' a policewoman played by Navya Nair. Comical situations arise and confusion prevails.

Does Venu get the girl he desires forms the finale. In order to not make things obvious, the director has employed certain techniques which can be termed 'irrelevant shots'. The ending might appear abrupt but on the whole the film succeeds in entertaining.

Two action sequences are part of the film probably to adhere to the so-called commercial template most directors' bow down to these days (fear element at work?).

The success of this film could broaden the horizon of present day Tamil Cinema that has taken a beating because of run-of-the-mill soaps that fight for audiences inside peoples' living rooms. It can be recalled that movies without much of 'masala' and action are a rare commodity these days.

'Raman Thediya Seethai' is a film sans 'masala' and with a few negligible stunt sequences. Its success will definitely score a point in the right direction and probably might even encourage many other filmmakers to tread the path of Storytelling devoid of mindless stuff.

Sakkarakatti - An Amateurish Endeavor

Shantanoo Bagyaraj's debut film 'Sakarakatti' comes across as a lackluster film with a screenplay that fails to impress right through. Though the young actor seems bubbly, his efforts have been wasted with contrived dialogues and clichéd sequences.

A. R. Rahman's brilliance is in abundance both with the songs and the background score, but debutant director Kalaprabhu has miserably failed to match the refreshing standards set by the talented musician. Visualization of the songs has been worked out well but then does not go with the mood of the film. Art direction in the song sequences has to be lauded. Recreation of the Van Helsing set and certain other similar endeavors have come out well. Computer Generated Imagery that features in the song sequences has come good. Soundarya Rajinikanth's Ocher Studios' involvement in the film is commendable. There are no villains in the film and the director has struggled to keep the conflict element going.

There is however one song 'Taxi….Taxi' that stands out. Youthful vigor, catchy tunes and a mood that personifies joy has come out brilliantly. Shantanoo is at ease in the song with some good dancing complimenting the rest of the dancers that include hip-swaying damsels.

Dimple-cheeked Shantanoo seems to be inspired tremendously by Shahrukh Khan as many of his expressions especially in the beginning of the film reveal. Unfortunately for the debutant whose father is considered one the greatest screenwriters in South Indian cinema, his introductory film hovers around aimlessly without any semblance of a screenplay.

Ishita proves to be a debutante who has nothing much to do except to burst out emotionally and of course smile sweetly at the protagonist. Audiences would probably remember her for mouthing the words 'cho chweet' which she does a number of times. Vedhika on the other hand, has handled herself in a more professional manner as the sometimes jealous no-way-out one-side lover.

Yuvaraj (Shantanoo) is a lad who grows up in the company of four friends with a penchant for mischief and an adventurous attitude. Just before he is to join college, he sees a girl named Deepali (Ishita) stranded on the road thanks to a malfunctioning car and a helpless driver. Yuvaraj finds himself in awe of her beauty and one of the most clichéd incidents happens. She walks into the same classroom as our hero is in and there is love in the air.

In comes another girl Reema (Vedhika) who happens to be Yuvaraj's cousin (aunt's daughter). She too joins the same college. Reema falls for her cousin and continues to be helplessly in love even after she gets to know about Yuvaraj's and Deeplai's love affair.

Yet another clichéd incident happens. Reema gives a red rose to our hero which is seen by Deepali. The girl runs away with a broken heart. The hero explains things and the affair brightens up once again. After a while Reema slips, thanks to a door mat. Yuvaraj holds her in a bid to break her fall. This again is seen by Deepali and another emotional outburst happens. The love affair is plagued by an assuming Deepali and a group of friends who want to bring the young lovers together.

Yuvaraj caught between the assuming Deepali and his true feeling of love decides to end the relationship which he voices to his heart's desire. Confusion reigns until his friends conjure up an idea which would necessitate all the three people involved to come together in a 'birthday party'. One more twist happens which produces some emotional dialogues. Do the lovers come together again or does Reema's pure-love succeed?

Trailers of 'Paathshala' to be exposed tomorrow

Every film lover around knows that a film titled as 'Paathshala' is being made but still the time has not come for it to turn up the heat.

This situation can change after October 17 as Big Pictures is all set to release the trailer of the movie.

The presence of the youth sensation Shahid Kapur in the movie is sure to get the film much mileage and once the promos gets out from the next day on the big screens; it is just a matter of some days for the film to become a hot property high on the most awaited list.

The trailer of the film will be shown with the forthcoming movie 'Karzzzz'.



'Paathshala' is directed by the award winning Marathi director Milind Ukey and has music composed by Hanif.

The other cast members are Nana Patekar, Ayesha Takia, Sunny Singh, Shraddha Arya and Sushant Singh.

Famous child artists Swini Khare, Ali Haji, Dwij Yadav are also doing key roles in 'Paathshala'.

The story of the film is based on the Indian education system and speaks about some contemporary and socially relevant issues relating to children.

Kadhalil Vizhunthen - Worth a watch

Romance can do wonders in a man's life. It can make a man or it can even break a man. Debutant director Prasad has chronicled the life of a youth, who life takes a huge turn after he develops a romance in ‘Kadhalil Vizhunthen’. The film-maker has passed out in flying colors and deserves credit for going about his work in a professional manner.

The end product, through gory and violent, leaves an impact with the audience.

With a lesser known star cast, director Prasad has managed to weave a sequence of some interesting and catchy sequences. Though a predictable storyline, the neat performance from the star cast, racy background of Vijay Anthony and brisk cinematography by Vijay Milton keeps us glued to the seats.

Due credit should be given to the lead pair Nakul and Sunaina. It is no easy task to take such a meaty role so early in their career. Both have got under the skin of their character to give their best. After Boys, the young actor has almost waited five years for his next. A worthy weight indeed for he has got to do a movie which one actor rarely comes across in Tamil cinema these days. He fits the role like T. His transformation from an innocent lovelorn youth to an angry young man desperate to save his romance deserves applause.

Sunaina with her girl-next-door look is adequate. It is indeed happy to see a heroine getting so much footage in a contemporary Tamil cinema. She manages to combine glamour with a strong performance. Sampath Raj, who impressed everyone withy films including ‘Chennai 28’ and ‘Saroja’, continues his good run. He plays a police officer on the run for the lover couple. Livingston's cameo needs to mention. The movie has a host of stars, who have played their part well.

Sabha (Nakul), a youth born and brought up in a Chennai slum, meets with an accident due to the negligence of Meera (Sunaina), a girl from a rich family. She ensures that Sabha is nursed back to his normal health. Her caring and amiable way, leaves an impact with Sabha. From hospital, he sets out on a mission to meet Meera and open his heart out.

What starts as a friendship blossoms as love between them. However fate takes a cruel turn when Sabha returns from Ooty after playing a football match to meet his beloved. He is informed that Meera has breathed her last. A shattered Sabha rushes to hospital only to see her body taken to post-mortem. Not believing that she is dead, he urged doctors to help save her. However when everyone insists that she is dead, Sabha slips to his own world imagining that Meera is still alive. He flees from Chennai with Meera's body imagining that she is still alive and both would lead a happy life far from the madding crowd. Anbu Selvan ( Sampath Raj), a police inspector goes on Sabha's search. He runs behind Sabha only to end up in vain in every attempt of his. Meanwhile, Sabha starts to live his own world with the body of Meera. After blood, gore and score of murders, Sabha gives up his life eventually.

Prasad seems to have been inspired by movies like ‘Guna’, ‘By2’, ‘7G Rainbow Colony’ and ‘Kadhal Kondein’. He has managed to draw a link between action and romance in the film, which works out well.

The real scene stealer is however Vijay Anthony. The high octave and peppy number “Nakka Mukka” is the USP of the film. It comes twice ion the film and it is thoroughly entertaining.

With the assessment of co-promotions and in-film branding being pegged at close to Rs. 9 crores, UTV Motion Pictures is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that 'Fashion' is mounted as the biggest release this Diwali.

Netru Indru Naalai - Pulsating & powerful

7G Rainbow colony’ debuted an actor who portrayed the character of a young lad in the most apt manner. After a few duds, Ravikrishna has now opted to get in to the line of action with ‘Netru Indru Naalai’. It is indeed a comeback for the actor that has rejuvenated his acting career. The plot of the story is based on an action-thriller that takes place in just 72 hours, which is the title. Ravikrishna has shed his weight considerably and looks refreshingly different in the role of the protagonist.

The movie begins with Vettri (Ravikrishna), who is on the verge of ending his life. Frustrated by not getting a job and none to help him, he decides to commit suicide. When he decides to jump into a moving train, a dead man along with a cellular phone is spotted by him in the nick of the moment. He receives a call through the phone which makes his life go topsy-turvy. Vettri hides his identity and poses himself as Kishore, the dead man found by him on the railway track. He gets richer in a day’s time and money starts pouring in from all quarters. Later, he also comes across Swapana (Akshara), who loves Vettri by his forged identity as Kishore.

Fate strikes a fatal blow on his new found riches and takes a turn in his life. A baddie in the city Poorana (Ajay) thinks Kishore had eloped with his cash and decides to kill Kishore. This marks the cat and mouse chase that begins and continues throughout the movie, to end in serenity. How Vettri manages to escape the evil-eyes of Poorana forms the crux of the story.

The credit goes in entirety to director Lakshmikanth, who has managed to infuse all ingredients that would appease action-buffs, at the same time will lure youngsters to the cinema halls. The highlight of the movie is brilliant dialogues penned down by Prasanna Kumar. The writer walks away with aplomb in an abundant number of scenes.

Tamannah plays a cameo but unfortunately it is an insignificant role in the film. When she has no prominent part to emote in the script makes one wonder that what made her accept the offer in the first place. Nasser plays his part as a baddy well. He has enough screen space in the movie and he utilizes it well. He wins with his hands down as a treacherous scelerat. Ajay, who plays the villainous role of Poorana, is a typical villain, who is loud, evoking a lot of sound on screen. Karunaas’s comedy is refreshingly different and he does a neat job of tickling the audience. Akshara as the female lead delivers and gives an adequate performance par with what her character demands.

Lokesh’s editing and Ganesh’s choreography is worth a mention. Thanks to Ravikrishna's bold performance and catchy musical score by Anil, the movie manages to sustain the interest of the audience. If you haven’t seen the movie yesterday, then see it today or tomorrow because it’s worth a watch.

Paresh will be seen in the main brand film and also in the advertisements of other general insurance products of the company like Motor, Health and Home insurance.

New authorization given to Mani Rathnam

Now Mani Ratnam will not have to go to the lush forests of Sri Lanka to recommence the shooting of his ambitious bilingual project having Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Southern super star Vikram in the lead roles.

The Kerala Forest Department has given new permission to continue the shooting inside the Malyatoor forest which can be reached after a two hour journey from the city of Cochin.

Earlier the officials of the Forest Department had canceled the permission after it was found out that the crew had constructed small huts without consulting the officials in the highly sensitive terrain.

The company producing the film had also built some shooting sets inside the forest.

The justification given by the production crew of the film was that the huts were made for protecting the highly expensive equipments used for the shooting from the rain.

Some strict conditions accompany the new sanction given for the continuation of the shooting.

Earlier only Rs.1000 was the amount that was being charged by the Forest department for a period of 20 days to shoot inside the forest.

Now the financier of the film will have to give Rs.10,000 for a single day of production work.

The number of vehicles used inside the forest have to be reduced and the crew also has to take care of not littering any materials made of plastic inside the jungle.

Actors to hold fast in Chennai

Nadigar Sangam will be holding a separate fast in Chennai tentaively on 1 November to express their solidarity for the cause of Tamils being killed in neighbouring Sri Lanka.

It may be recalled that director Bharathiraja announced a three-day demonstration cum rally in the island town of Rameswaram as a symbol of protest against the treatment meted out to the Tamils in Lanka beginning 18 October.

Bharathiraja, speaking on behalf of several associations and unions in the industry, had announced recently that the entire Tamil cinema fraternity would take part at the rally in Rameswaram.

Sources in Nadigar Sangam said those who can make it to Rameswaram are welcome to go ahead. 'The idea to hold a full-fledged fast in Chennai is to show our solidarity to the Lankan Tamils', they said.

Roja returns

Following the footsteps of Kushboo, Ramya Krishnan and Nadhiya, it's now Roja's turn to play mom for the current generation heroes.

It is a known fact that Roja stopped acting in films after entering into full time politics. However, the actress, who is now an active office bearer of Telugu Desam Party, has agreed to act in the Bharath starrer 'Killadi'.

If reports are to be believed, she accepted the offer after much goading from director A Venkatesh, who has given a restart to the film after a break.

Industry buzz is that Roja would play Nila's mother in 'Killadi', an out and out commercial venture. The actress was last seen as Prithviraj's mom in 'Parijatham'.

Rajeev Menon to direct Abhishek

Rajeev Menon, who was basically an ad film maker, is one of the senior ace cinematographers in Indian Cinema. He has also directed the films 'Minsara Kanavu' and 'Kandukondaen Kandukondaen'.

Recent buzzes say that he would soon start a Hindi film with Abhishek Bachchan in the lead role.

Sources reveal that the movie is a remake of 'Abhimaan', a yesteryear superhit of Amitabh Bachchan. It is said that Rajeev Menon has also asked Amitabh to do a guest role in the film, besides Jaya Bachchan.

Madhavan in Karan Johar's film

Madhavan, who is making waves in Tamil and Hindi filmdom, is now cast alongside Shahrukh Khan for a movie to be directed by Karan Johar. The director is to cast Madhavan as SRK's brother in the Hindi flick 'My Name is Khan'.

Madhavan, who haven't had a strike in the recent times in Tamil cinema, is already working for 'Theen Patti' with Amitabh Bachchan and 'Three Idiots' with Aamir Khan. Erstwhile, Madhavan has played alongside Aamir Khan in the spectacular movie 'Rang De Basanti'. His brilliant performance opposite Abhishek Bachchan in 'Guru' directed by Mani Ratnam was laurelled. Another interesting scoop is, Madhavan started his first as an artist in a Hindi soap opera and is now again making it big in the North.

In Tamil, meanwhile, he has signed up for a movie with Thankar Bachan in which Sathyaraj plays his dad. He also has' Naan Aval Adhu', 'Yaavarum Nalam' waiting for release besides 'Aananda Punnagai'.

Poonam pings Kollywood

It would be a happy festival of lights for actress Poonam Bajwa this Deepavali.

The girl from Pune is eagerly awaiting the release of her maiden Tamil venture 'Seval' opposite Bharath.

She has also got 'Thenavattu' opposite Jeeva ready for release soon. "In 'Thenavattu', I am a modern girl from the city and it's the exact opposite in 'Seval' where I am a village girl, innocent yet cute," she grins.

She is all thrilled about working with Hari for 'Seval'. "He is so dedicated; he shows us everything we need to do. Even if it means rolling in the mud, he does it himself to demonstrate what he expects from us. He is truly amazing to work with."

A great admirer of films like 'Moondram Pirai', 'Paruthiveeran' and 'Subramaniyapuram' , she hopes to emote in more quality films and leave a mark for herself in Kollywood.

Bhavana's dip in Tollywood

Malluwood girl Bhavana, has a slew of releases in Tamil including the recent 'Jeyam Kondaan'. The beautiful actress has now hopped to the Telugu filmdom. She plays heroine opposite Nithin for a movie titled 'Hero'.

The movie would hit the floors on 23rd October. Produced by Manyam Ramesh, the movie has musical score by Mani Sharma.

Bhavana believes that the film has come out really well and she would make a big impact in the Telugu film industry. Planned to be released globally with about 100 prints, the movie has cinematography by Ramprasad. Ramya Krishnan makes a cameo in the film.

Nadiya features as school correspondent cum psychiatrist in this movie which is produced by director Lingusamy's production house 'Thirupati Brothers'.

Rohan Krishna, a film institute student makes his directorial debut through this film. He was a former assistant to Rajiv Menon and Santosh Sivan and also has won a national award for a short film titled 'Paramapadham'.

The film revolves around the school students, played by new comers and has strong, emotional values, which impressed Nadiya very much and made her act in the movie as she is very selective about her projects these days.
